Hair for Classes at VBDance

Hair (Ballet)

Hair must be in a classical bun for all ballet classes on Thursdays and Saturdays and for Friday Associate Ballet. If your child dances straight after school at Birchwood Grove, Manor Field or Burgess Hill Girls, please provide a brush, hair elastics and clips and we will tie hair into a pony tail.

Older students are encouraged to learn how to do their hair themselves as this plays a part in learning the discipline of preparing for ballet and taking responsibility for presentation. This is something that dancers learn to feel proud of because it plays such an enormous part in understanding ballet discipline. Hair tied in a classical bun allows a dancers to feel the length properly in the back of the neck, spot properly when turning and allows the teacher to see the classical lines the dancer is creating and correct appropriately.

Above is a short film with details of how to  style hair for Ballet class. Gel can be substitued with a spray of water instead if preferred.

Hair Modern Theatre, Tap & Jazz
Must be tied back neatly for these classes too. A ponytail with fringes and wisps off of the face. If your daughter has long hair, a ponytail is not sufficient as this flicks into the face when turning. A bun in this instance is recommended.
